The Vieques Human Rights and Film Festival is back for it’s 2nd edition

The proposal for its second edition is dedicated to the claim for a just recovery.

For its second edition, the Vieques Film and Human Rights Festival offers to the public, completely free, more than 40 productions of the best local and international films with human rights topics.

It can be enjoyed from December 1 to 5 on Vieques Island, with Fort Conde Mirasol as its main headquarters, thanks to a collaboration with the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture. A part of the selection can be accessed from anywhere in the world, through the web. The festival premieres a presential version, with all health precautions, and will retain virtual aspects.

In its second edition, the festival will focus on just recovery processes, understood as the right of individuals and communities to have recovery plans address their needs, desires, and human rights. Mutual support, community organization, the fight against austerity and all kinds of violence, make up the main themes of the productions, among which more than a dozen local premieres stand out.

“For the festival it is very important to support local productions, and those made in recent years around different human rights issues in our country are abundant. They are valuable projects that deserve more space and more support to be shown. The festival has productions from more than 10 countries in the first open call that we have made. Our second edition is a success from its very beginning". said the general producer of the event, Diana Ramos Gutiérrez.

The activities will begin on Wednesday, December 1 with the presentation of the interactive project “Where we were safe”, composed of memories and spaces of salsa music during the 70's in New York. The presentation, and a tour with its creator, Marcos Echeverría, will be broadcast on Facebook live at 1:00 pm. You will be able to enjoy screenings starting at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 1, at Fort Conde Mirasol in Vieques.

As part of the festival's educational program, two just recovery workshops will be held on Saturday, December 4, starting at 10:00 am at the main event venue, by Urbana Planifica and the Amigxs del Mar organization. Their virtual offer is made up of more than 15 local and international productions that will have free access every day of the event.
