Vieques Film and Human Rights Festival Announces Official Selection for its Second Edition
The Vieques Film and Human Rights Festival (FCDHV in Spanish acronym) announced through its social networks its official selection, which this year includes more than 40 projects. The second edition of the festival will be held from December 1 to 5, 2021 with screenings in Vieques, having Fort Conde Mirasol as its main venue, thanks to a collaboration with the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture. Screenings will also be held in outdoor spaces on Isla Nena.
A virtual selection of 15 productions will complement the screenings. Its call for works reached more than 10 countries this year. “We are very happy with the scope that our first call has had, with the thematic quality that we had received. This year we formally present the non-competitive Memory and Youth sessions. Community organization, mutual support and recovery processes are reflected in the best recent productions of the country, the diaspora and the region”, commented Diana Ramos Gutiérrez, director of the festival.
The offer will integrate feature films, medium-length films and short films in multiple formats, from documentaries to animation and musicals. The main objective of the Vieques Human Rights and Film Festival is to present the best productions that cover all social problems related to the defense of human rights and the environment from multiple and original points of view, thus promoting high-level critical cinema. artistic quality that contributes to social transformation.
The festival will present premiere projects, such as "We still here", "Nuevo Rico", "Simulacros de liberation", the short film "Alma", as well as the medium-length films "The war against our schools" and "Chimenea de Muerte". among others. From the diaspora, “Takeover” and “Making the impossible, possible” tell important stories of the Puerto Rican community, as well as the multimedia project “When we were safe”. "What happened to the bees?", "Femicide. One case, multiple struggles” and“ The Guardian” are part of the international offer. The entrance to the screenings, as well as the virtual presentations will be free of cost.
