Open Call: 5th Vieques Human Rights Film Festival 2025

The Vieques Human Rights Film Festival (FCDHV) has announced the opening of its call for entries for the 5th edition of the festival, which will take place from January 30 to February 2, 2025. This annual event aims to expand cultural alternatives from a social and committed perspective on various human rights issues, using film as a means of raising awareness.

The FCDHV invites filmmakers from around the world to submit their cinematic works that address social issues and human rights. Eligible films must have been made from January 1, 2023, onwards. The submission deadline is October 1, 2024.

Festival Objective

The Vieques Human Rights Film Festival was founded with the purpose of deepening and raising awareness of the most urgent issues, seeking through art new spaces of empowerment that can be replicated as tools for individual and collective transformation.

Annual Festival Focus

The 5th edition of the Festival's main focus is healing justice. This concept is understood as "a framework that identifies how we can respond to and intervene holistically in trauma and intergenerational violence, providing collective practices that can impact and transform the consequences of oppression in our collective bodies, hearts, and minds" (Cara Page).

Participation and Registration

National and international works of a documentary, fiction, experimental, animation, music video, work in progress, and new audiovisual formats that address any social and environmental topic that promotes respect for human rights in its broadest sense are welcome. Films or videos sponsored by commercial companies that serve as advertising vehicles due to their content cannot participate.

Registration for the festival is done through the FilmFreeway platform. Interested parties can visit the festival's website (fcdhv.com) for more details on submission requirements and selection criteria.

Selection

The Selection Committee reserves the right to select the films to be programmed in the festival and to place them in competitive or non-competitive sections. The authors of the selected works will be notified in time to send a screening copy in exhibition format and quality. Films not spoken in Spanish must be subtitled in Spanish.
